Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How should I handle a bird I want mounted when in the field?
A: Birds which you wish to have mounted should be retrieved by hand and lifted by the feet, not by the head. Dogs should not retrieve birds to be mounted. Always cool the bird as quickly as possible. Once home, gently tuck the birds head under a wing, wrap in plastic, or place in a plastic bag, and freeze as soon as possible. Birds should be sent or taken to the taxidermist as soon as possible to ensure a quality mount. NEVER place a bird in plastic until it is thoroughly cooled!

Q: How do I get my bird to you?
A: Birds may be shipped frozen via overnight service, or dropped off at our location. Always ship on a Monday or Tuesday. ALWAYS contact us BEFORE shipping birds so that we can make sure someone will be here to accept delivery. Please contact us for instructions on how to package the bird for shipping, or to arrange for drop off.

Q: What happens once you receive my bird?
A: Within 24 hours of receiving your bird, it will be assessed. If we find any issues which may prevent us from mounting the bird, or mounting it in the pose you've requested, we will call you to discuss alternatives.
